Cedar Creek Treehouse, Ashford, WA
A Nature Getaway a Little Closer to Heaven

Did you ever dream of living in a treehouse when you were a child?

Then the Cedar Creek Treehouse in Ashford, Washington, is maybe just what you are looking for.

Clinging to a 200-year-old cedar tree in a heavily forested area with sweeping views to surrounding mountains and valleys is the most authentic Treehouse I've ever seen.

Bill Compher a professional musician, did what many of us only dream of. He handcrafted a fairytale treehouse to live happily ever after in lofty heights with a view to a dreamscape on the edge of Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

It's not a simple treehouse of the backyard variety - it's a full-fledged heated house halfway up a giant western red cedar.

and Mt. Renier

There's a live in kitchen with a gas stove, a bathroom with camping toilet, a sunroom that doubles as a 1-person bedroom, and a sleeping-loft with skylights to observe the twinkly stars. The cedar that holds the construction is a living companion, growing through the floor and out the roof. Plenty of windows offer breath-taking views.

Tough living with children in a treehouse proofed to be a bit complicated and that brought him back to the ground. He built a house on his 5-acre property for an easier family life and opened up his childhood dream to adventurous guests.

It was just a matter of time that the media would pay attention to this unconventional treehouse retreat. It has received national and international attention; even Oprah featured it in one of her shows. The Travel Channel called it one of the top three "extreme hotels", and England's Guardian named it one of the five best treehouse hotels in the world.

Before you can relax in the rustic coziness and enjoy the views, you have to climb a flight of stairs to the treehouse 50 feet up. The only neighbor up in the treetops, next to birds and squirrels, is an observatory floating 200 feet high up in a fir tree with a 360 degree lookout. It is only reachable up the five-story "Stairway to Heaven" and across an 80-foot rainbow suspension bridge. The views are spectacular: Mount Rainier, Osborne Mountain, Nisqually Valley, Copper Creek Ski Hut, the Sawtooth Ridge Peaks, Mount Wow and if you are lucky Mountain Goats.

If you are a nature-loving adventurer with a sense for the simple life and always dreamt of sleeping in the tree tops with the stars - then this is definitely for you.

There is a limited supply of water that Bill carries up the stairs each day. So, if a sponge bath or a skinny dip into the pond below is not your thing, and the hike down the road for a shower is not your idea of a vacation, you might want to rethink your choice.

A 12-volt battery provides electricity, and the fridge is nothing more than a camping cooler packed with ice.

Once you are up in the Cedar Creek Treehouse you will be awarded with a spectacular view and surrounded by natures whispers.
