From Switzerland's most famous cave dweller to Lord of the Castle. Does Gothic Architecture come to mind if one thinks of underground homes?
Probably not. But for Peter Vetsch, world-renowned architect for building sustainable, modern day underground homes it's perhaps not far fetched.
He just moved up a notch in history. From incorporating sustainable living methods used thousands of years ago to the 12th century medieval Gothic Castle approach.
His version of a dungeon is a pretty cheery place: wine cellar, car park and spacious office. Contrary to the medieval castles and the plenty of hardships that came with it, this one has all the comfort and glamour we associate with living in a castle.
The fantasy Castle is just a hence race away from his earth house he inhabited with his family for decades. One of the towers is recognizable in the background of the picture above.
When I took the photo, I didn't know he had moved on to higher grounds. Maybe that's a good thing. I am not sure if the gargoyles, albeit modern sculptures, would have greeted an intruder with a friendly grin.
