Lake Manyara Tree Lodge, Tanzania
Rift Valley Luxury Safari

The Lake Manyara Tree Lodge is the only safari lodge in that relatively small but unique National Park with the same name that boosts a broad variety of wildlife. It is located on the edge of the impressive Great Rift Valley in close proximity of a soda lake with the same name.

If you are looking for an intimate luxury safari - this is it!

The ten stilted luxury treehouses of the Lake Manyara Tree Lodge are tucked away in the branches of ancient mahogany trees and fit harmoniously into the surrounding bush. They are crafted from local timber and makuti (palm fronds) with thatched roofs. The walls are made from folded banana leaves and large windows invite the lush forest inside. The rooms are tastefully decorated in natural colours and materials, stylish and with thoughtful touches but not overdone. Even "wellis" are waiting for the occasional rainfall.

The en-suite bathroom is generous in size with French doors that open to the veranda. A freestanding bathtub in the middle of the room offers great views to the breathtaking surroundings. An outdoor shower on the veranda, enclosed by a wall of bamboo poles for privacy, crowns the bath experience.

Overhead fans and mosquito nets complete the safari feel of the rooms. The veranda offers comfortable furniture to enjoy the extensive view and meals in privacy if desired.

The Lake Manyara Tree Lodge features a great outdoor dining area, a so-called boma in a theatrical setting. The meals are prepared in an open style and interactive kitchen where guests are encouraged to look into the pots.

The escarpment of the dramatic Great Rift Valley drops approx. 500 meters (1640 ft) down to the flamingo-rimmed shore of the lake, where picnics and breakfasts are arranged.

Area Attractions

Activities in the park evolve around the ancient drama of wildlife encounters. The Park is only 325 square kilometres (125 square miles) large - but incredibly diverse and well known for its vast elephant herds, tree-climbing lions and large troops of baboons. It's home to an amazing variety of birds - approx. 400 species. The adrenalin pumping game-drives are made in open 4x4 safari vehicles.

A day at the Lodge could start with a morning game drive starting at dawn, returning to breakfast followed by free time. After the afternoon tea an other game drive to the lake to watch huge flocks of pelicans and flamingos, buffalo and hippos cooling and bathing in the water before settling in for the night. Returning to the lodge to enjoy dinner at the lamp lit boma.
