A Delightful and Lively Farmer's Market
Penticton British Columbia
Fida WildSticking to my plans is not my forte. It's not that I don't like to plan, I do, and I do it pretty well and diligently.
But then, in a blink of an eye, I throw the plan to the pigs. Maybe a phone call throws me off the path or - as in this case - an innocent check-in with my library account to see which books I had to return. I don't know exactly how it happened or which button I pushed, but I came across a small note that told me of a great party that was going on in Penticton British Columbia.
So, instead of going west last Saturday, I headed south. What good is it to stick to a boring plan if there is a perfectly good reason not to? The beautiful warm weather called for an adventure, and Penticton promised to provide it.
I hopped into the car and travelled through our 'fruit basket' - the gorgeous sun soaked Okanagan valley, along pristine lakes and strange looking mountain formations to Penticton.
I actually came here for the Muralists at Work 2010 Festival, but then I got pulled in by the Farmer's Market right on Main Street that takes place every Saturday from May until end of October. The colourful bounty of fruits, vegetables and flowers caught my eye and I was a goner from the original plan again, at least for an hour or so.
It's not just a place where you go and buy your organic produce for the week from local growers or a bouquet of incredibly beautiful flowers; it's a sizzling market where musicians entertain the visitors, and artists display their creative work - from sparkly nothings to sophisticated woodcarvings.
Vendors lure you into their booths' with creatively designed things you swore not to buy because your closet already is full to the brim. A head massage gadget promises headache free times, handmade soaps made of good natural ingredients and cremes that promise to kill any wrinkles are offered. And if you don't know where your life path is headed - with or without a plan - you can even consult a reading in a wisdom tent.
Deliciously backed peach cobblers and other heavily bites, barbequed sausages and burgers for meat lovers and home made jams and all sorts of relishes I even didn't know exist are sold and hard to resist.
I did resist the wine tasting though. I was shoulder slapping proud of myself. You understand it once you sipped that beautiful wine that is produced in the Okanagan. And while music echoed through the streets, I enjoyed a latte in one of the many outdoor cafés that line Main Street.
I left with bags full of fall goodies. Rosy cheeked peaches, dark purple shining plums that competed with the dark blue colour of the grapes, spicy peppers and a selection of colourful and decorative pumpkins.

Colours that make me a child again
Seriously, I feel like a kid in flea markets when I just run across stalls just because the bright colours attracted me to them, although I want to buy ...
Colorful
It looks so colorful and full of curious things. Fida apart from my favorite, flowers!
