Salt Spring Island Studio Tours

Various tribes of the Salishan were the first settlers on the overwhelmingly beautiful Salt Spring Island. Not only was the idyllic island the first Gulf Island to be settled, it also became a refuge from racism for African Americans who had resided in California.

Salt Spring Island is located between the Mainland of British Columbia and Vancouver Island, and has a population of approx. 10,500.

Expansive views over land, sea and rugged mountains attract not only tourists but also an eclectic mix of artists.

The Salt Spring Island Studio Tour - a year-round, self-guided art walk - was established in 1985, and has since become a wild success.

You can experience fascinating works of art by various artists: jewelery makers, wood carvers, painters, photographers, potters, textile artists - just to name a few, and round up your tour with wine and cheese tasting.

An ArtWalk on Salt Spring Island
by: Fida

Stina, this will no doubt be my next discovery tour. I always wanted to visit the Gulf Islands - it's practically on my door step - in Canadian terms and distances anyway (smile).

Looking at those photos and browsing through the Studio Tour Website gave me the last reason to pack my duffel bag and go.
