Upside Down House in Putbus
Insel Rügen, Germany
by Fida Wild
Flipping house takes on a whole new meaning in Putbus. The upside down house is a new addition to the indoor playground Pirateninsel Rügen.
The idea is maybe crazy but not new. Similar houses were built in other parts of Germany, Poland and in the USA, but it is the largest of the lot.
The handstand practicing house was opened to the public in July 2010, and - as reported by the owners of the "Pirateninsel Rügen" - with great success. Numerous visitors flock daily to the quirky house on Rügen, the largest of the German Islands.
A visit in the house can leave you slightly dizzy, or at least disoriented. One enters through a door in the roof and works ones way down - or wait - up to the basement. You may want to go to the washroom before you visit the house because chances are you never make it to the potty in the house. Although it is completely furnished as a normal house would be, going to bed or sitting leisurely on the couch just won't happen - unless you take some darn good glue and a ladder with you.
Thankfully, the bicycle is pretty safe. Thieves will think twice before doing some acrobatic tricks to get to it.
